A trip to the Market
Last weekend I walked to the farmer's market that they have downtown every Saturday morning. It was so cool! Plus I got a special treat on the way there.
A few streets were blocked off, it turns out for a bike race. So, I was right next to them when they took off. It was a smaller race - probably about 50+ riders. It was so impressive when they all rode by, the whirring of the wheels, the wind and all. I never knew 50+ bicyclists would look and sound so spectacular!
When I got to the farmer's market I got another treat, there was a live band playing! And the cucumbers I bought were still fresher than I've ever had them almost a week later. When I cut into the cukes they literally burst with juices. I also bought a cornish hen from this guy who raises and kills all the chickens himself. After he gingerly handed me the little chicken, he gave me a pamphlet explaining how machine processing spills guts on the meat and makes it go bad quicker, and is more likely to cause sickness etc. I was a little worried because I didn't get around to cooking it until 2 days later. Lo and behold, the chicken was fresher than any chicken I have ever cooked. It had positively no smell at all whatsoever! Even before rinsing, the chicken smelled clean and fresh. And it was more moist than any I have ever cooked.
I think I'll start every Saturday with a walk to the farmer's market from now on.
